In 2018, about 30,000 female housekeepers were sent to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia without imparting any training at technical training centres.

Out of 73,713 female workers sent to the KSA in 2018, according to available data 44,352 were imparted housekeeping training.

Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry officials said at a recent ministry meeting that the 12- day e-learning course on housekeeping had been in place at Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Centre in the capital.

Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit director Marina Sultana told New Age that sending untrained workers make them vulnerable to abuse.

‘There was lack of transparence in the recruitment process,’ she said.
